Continuous Glucose Monitoring

How does a continuous glucose monitor work?

Blood sugar balance affects far more than blood sugar - it's tied into hormone balance, energy, mood, sleep, and weight patterns, in ways that’s difficult to monitor or observe with a single fasting glucose reading. A continuous glucose monitor allows us to track glucose in real time - so we can catch that pattern as it's happening rather than guessing at it after the fact. As part of my programmes, I may recommend continuous glucose monitoring through Biometriq, a third party company that allows me to gain real-time insights and deliver personalised feedback based on how your body is responding to food, exercise, stress, sleep, and everyday lifestyle habits. The sensor is worn discreetly on the back of your arm, connects to an app and provides the level of detail and information that helps us personalise your care.

A CGM can provide valuable insights into:

  • Blood sugar patterns throughout the day

  • Your body's response to different foods and meals

  • The effects of stress on glucose regulation

  • Exercise and recovery

  • Overnight glucose trends

  • Energy highs and crashes

  • Cravings and appetite patterns

  • Metabolic health and insulin sensitivity

Should women without diabetes use a continuous glucose monitor?

Yes, and it's one of the most common questions people ask before trying one. A CGM was originally developed for diabetes management, but blood sugar regulation matters for hormone health, energy, mood, sleep, and weight regardless of whether you have insulin resistance or diabetes. Even when routine blood tests appear completely normal, fluctuations in blood glucose throughout the day can significantly influence how you feel and how your hormones function. A CGM for non-diabetics isn't about managing a disease. It's about seeing a pattern that a single fasting blood test can’t capture.

Why I use Biometriq specifically

There are several CGM providers on the market, and I use Biometriq because it allows me to pair continuous glucose data with the kind of personalised interventions that turns a stream of numbers into an actual plan. Like all of the functional tests I use, a CGM is recommended because it provides meaningful information that helps guide your personalised care plan, not because more testing is automatically better or for the sake of testing.

How I work with your glucose data

Two weeks of glucose data is a lot to observe and try to interpret on your own. I'm trained in it to help you:

  • Connect your glucose patterns to your food, sleep, stress, and symptoms, not just the raw numbers.

  • Avoid generic advice, since the whole point of a CGM is that your patterns are yours.

  • Build practical, sustainable changes, one step at a time. You don’t need another restrictive plan to add to your day.

  • Connect it to the bigger hormonal picture, since blood sugar rarely tells the whole story on its own.

Where CGM fits into your care

Continuous glucose monitoring is one of several functional tools I use, depending on what your individual picture needs.

It's a core part of my Metabolic and Energy Reset Programme, where you're provided with a CGM to wear for two weeks, giving real-time insight into exactly how your food, stress, sleep, and lifestyle are affecting your energy, metabolic health and blood sugar balance.
