Prenatal DNA Testing
What is DNA GrowBaby, and what does it show?
DNA GrowBaby is a nutrigenomics test designed to support women who are preparing for pregnancy or are already expecting. It looks at genetic variation across several interconnected pathways that influence how your body handles metabolism, inflammation, detoxification, and hormone regulation - rather than assuming every woman's biology responds to pregnancy preparation the same way.
Areas explored include:
Lipid metabolism
Methylation
Detoxification pathways
Inflammation
Cell signalling
Neurotransmitter metabolism (monoamine oxidase activity)
Neurotrophic factors (linked to brain health and development)
Hormonal metabolism - progesterone and melatonin
Insulin sensitivity and secretion
Vitamin D
Why look at this before or during pregnancy?
Pregnancy asks a lot of your body's underlying systems, often before you're even aware you're pregnant - which is part of why preparation matters as much as the pregnancy itself.
Methylation and detoxification pathways affect how efficiently your body processes and clears everything from hormones to everyday toxin exposure - relevant to both your wellbeing and your baby's development. Inflammation and cell signalling patterns influence how your body regulates its response to the physical demands of pregnancy. And insulin sensitivity and secretion are worth understanding early, since how your body manages blood sugar can shift meaningfully across pregnancy.
The hormonal side matters too. Progesterone is essential for maintaining a pregnancy, and melatonin plays a role in both sleep and antioxidant activity - both genuinely relevant to how you feel through preparation and pregnancy itself. And the neurotransmitter and neurotrophic factor pathways this test looks at are tied to brain health and development, for both you and your baby.
None of this replaces the antenatal care and bloodwork your midwife or obstetrician already runs. It adds a layer underneath it - a nutrigenomics picture of how your own body tends to handle these processes, so any nutrition or lifestyle support we build is based on your biology specifically, not a generic prenatal checklist.
How I work with your DNA GrowBaby results
A nutrigenomics report on its own doesn't tell you what to actually do differently. That's where the interpretation matters. I will:
Translate your results into practical choices, based on what your own pathways suggest you need more or less support with.
Personalise nutrition and lifestyle support around your genetic strengths and weaknesses - methylation, detoxification, and insulin sensitivity in particular tend to shape this most
Look at the whole picture, combining your genetic results with your health history, symptoms, and any other testing, rather than treating this information in isolation
Support you through preparation and pregnancy itself, not just a one-off report handed over and left there
Where DNA GrowBaby fits into your care
DNA GrowBaby is one of several functional tests and tools I use, but perhaps the most specific one for my fertility and prenatal clients. If fertility itself, rather than pregnancy preparation specifically, is your main concern right now, this test can be combined with also often used alongside DNA Hormones, since both explore how your genetics shape different parts of your reproductive and hormonal health.
